The opening release went out entirely in undyed cloth — a constraint at the time, taken for a position only much later.
Historical Context
Dyeing was cut for cost and lead time, not for principle. The archive records that plainly, because the version where it was always a philosophy is the version that would be easier to tell.
Impact
Undyed became the default, then became the expectation, and is now the thing the studio has to justify departing from.
The most durable decisions in this archive were mostly constraints that outlived their reasons.
