Release Notes
v1.0.0
Numbers Become Permanent
The first release that cannot be taken back
Release
Major
Entry numbers stopped being editable. This is the first release with a genuine breaking change, and the first that the archive cannot undo without lying about its own history.
What This Release Is
The point at which a number, once assigned, stops being a field anyone can change. Until now a mistyped number could be quietly corrected. From here it cannot.
Why It Is Breaking
Because the previous behaviour was relied upon. Three entries carried numbers that had been corrected after publication, and those corrections are now permanent facts about those entries rather than invisible repairs.
Changes
| Type | Change |
|---|---|
| Added | Correction notes, visible inside the entry they correct |
| Changed | Entry numbers are immutable after publication |
| Changed | Three historical corrections made visible retroactively |
| Fixed | Two entries whose dates disagreed with their own tables |
| Removed | Silent edit of published numbers |
Migration
Nothing to run. The three affected entries now display their correction history; no URL, number, or page changed.
“A record that can be silently repaired is a record that cannot be checked.”
Release note, v1.0.0
Version one is not the release with the most in it. It is the first one the archive cannot walk back, which is a different and slower thing to be ready for.
