The Beginning
The record begins with a correction. A piece was submitted for verification with documentation the archive could not match against its own copy, because the archive's copy had been replaced during a reprint and the original wording was no longer held anywhere.
The collector had the original. It was in the box the piece shipped in, which had not been opened since it arrived.
The Story
What followed was not an acquisition or a transfer. It was a reconciliation. Six pieces held by this collector were compared against the archive's records, and in two cases the collector's papers were the earlier document. Those two were photographed, transcribed, and entered as corrections rather than as new records.
The collector's practice is unremarkable and almost never followed: keep the box, keep the papers in the box, keep the boxes in the order they arrived. No cataloguing, no system, no notes. The order of arrival does all the work that a system would otherwise have to do.
